periwinkle | (43:37) Cave Story+ (Switch) "All Possible Items", Normal speedrun @periwinkle. | Uploaded July 2020 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
Personal best as of 2020/07/18.
This run was done at the request of a viewer who redeemed a big heap of Twitch channel points to make me do a run of this category. If you'd like to do the same and make me speedrun any Cave Story(+) category (doesn't even have to be a real/offical category) or (almost) any Cave Story mod of your choice, then catch me live at twitch.tv/periwinkle9 and maybe someday you'll rack up enough channel points to have your wish granted. :)
As for the run itself, it's pretty bad (by my standards, at least), but that's kind of to be expected given that it's my first run of the category (so I'm less familiar with certain aspects of the route, and the weapons are also in a different order which messes with my weapon swap muscle memory), and I'm also playing with a controller (which I'm not as good at compared to playing on PC with a keyboard).
For comparison, this run enters Sand Zone ~45 seconds behind thunderzap7's 45:02 run, and then slowly catches back up in Sand Zone and Labyrinth before finally overtaking thunderzap's run with the Waterway skip that I do at 26:54 in the video. The biggest chunk of time save, however, is actually a rule change that went into effect after thunderzap performed his run, which removed the requirement of having to return Mr. Little back to his home, thereby cutting out well over a minute from the length of the run.
