This Saturday 30 August at Rosehill NSW, Tyreek was killed one week after his 3yo birthday in what was only his second race.
His trainer referred to the incident as a “fall” and Tyreek had to be “put to rest”. Tyreek’s breeders said they were “deeply saddened” by the “tragic passing” of Tyreek.
Only Tyreek didn’t “fall” and he didn’t “pass”. He was killed after fracturing his shoulder when he was pushed through the inside running rail by another jockey.
The rider of the horse who forced Tyreek into the rail (T. Sherry) was suspended for his dangerous riding. He was responsible for what happened. However, evenly responsible for Tyreek’s killing are his owners for putting his life at risk in the first place for nothing but gambling and entertainment.
Please say #nuptothecup this spring racing season. The horses have no choice, but you do.
