Our local historic Cemetery has several monuments that have missing or broken marble finials. I decided to try to make replacements out of concrete. I used my Revopoint POP2 3D scanner to scan a broken finial. Aligning the finial axis to the CAD coordinate system I sketched the finial profile. Rotating the sketch about the finial axis gave me a nice 3D model. I then subtracted the finial model from a larger cylinder and made a mold.
Because of the large size, I had to break the mold into four pieces so they would fit on my Prusa 3D printer. It took over 2 days and a spool of filament to print each piece! It took two tries, but I am now making replacements!
You can use this same approach to make other yard art like gnomes, angels, cupids, etc.
