3D Updates from the past:
Hi Everyone! So happy to be back with my old friend Mike. Lots going on as usual in my lab.
Been having a blast printing an RC Cessna on my new Prusa MK3S. You can buy the STLs from 3dlabprint.com
Been diving into some CircuitPython projects. For those that don’t know about CircuitPython, it is quickly becoming a leading alternative to Arduino.
While I love Arduino it does have some drawbacks. For one, the IDE while simple, seems to have bugs. Libraries don’t always work the way they should. And sometimes it can be a pain in da butt to get programs on your board.
With CircuitPython, the board is mounted like a flash drive on your computer. You program the Python files directly on the board, and they run python. And the best part is that it runs Python! Python is the easiest language to learn in my opinion. If you are interested in dabbling in CircuitPython Adafruit is pouring tons of resources into developing libraries and offering all kind of great boards. Here’s one of my faves: adafruit.com/product/4116
Onshape is still serving me incredibly well. Onshape is Solidworks in the cloud. Nothing to install. No updates. No data to worry about. Just 3d tools to build stuff right in your browser. Onshape.com

Chris’ thought: Scanning seems to be really making a lot of improvements And able to quickly produce data that can be quickly captured into CAD.

Updates & Upcoming Shows & Events:
Makerfaire Bay area 2019 recap:
Makerfaire was pouring rain so most of the outdoor stuff was cancelled. Also it seemed like a huge drop in corporate sponsors this year. There was a lot of great content from Makers, but the amount of new products/ kickstarters dropped off dramatically.

Credits:
Thanks Chris, Unreal Engine, Oculus, NVIDIA, Smithosonian, Yuri the man behind the Vive MoCap plugin for Unreal, Albin the man behind the excellent 3D sculpting and texturing of his Apollo astronaut suit that I used as a basis to complete remaining components to make it “moon” ready, and finally for all the hard work from those at NASA who not only made Apollo 11 lunar landing the most iconic moment in the 20th century, if not one those moments in modern man’s history, but for their countless hours it took to archive the documents, charts, blueprints, audio, video and images and put it into the public domain that I relied on to recreate Tranquility base for “Apollo 11: ‘One Small Step For…’ VR Experiences”
