In this video, I show you my Big Reveal of my 2015 watermelon, butternut squash and zucchini (courgette) seedlings. They have not been grown the traditional way, indoors with grow lights. They've been grown with the Winter Sowing Method (details below) grown out in the snow in free recycled containers like milk jugs, juice and water jugs, take-out containers etc. They were sown in Feb, placed out in the SNOW and Mother Nature did the rest. In late May, I had the most gorgeous, healthy, HARDENED seedlings you've ever seen!
Watch as I reveal, for the first time ever, what the watermelon, butternut squash and zucchini seedlings look like. They are ready to transplant either in raised beds, in containers (5 gallon buckets work well) or in-ground.
You won't believe how healthy and strong they are when they're grown outdoors in the cold. All you do after they are grown in the containers is to scoop them out and transplant the seedlings into either your final container or in-ground. Why Winter Sow?
