UPDATE: 2/1/21 ALWAYS use Potting Mix, NOT Seed Starting Mix. Seed starting mix has no compost in it like Potting Mix does. Winter Sowing seedlings in jugs requires the seedlings to be in there awhile and need nutrients. With Seed Starting mix they will not thrive. With Potting Mix, organic if you can, they will do great and grow strong seedlings!

Winter sowing is an amazing technique where you plant your vegetable seeds in mini greenhouses and put them out in the snow in the middle of winter. By spring, you have gorgeous seedlings all ready to plant in your soil or containers.
You never have to 'harden' your seedlings anymore.
You never have to plant seedlings in your house anymore.
