We needed a power and heating source for the workshop, so a Diesel generator running as a CHP was the obvious choice.
The only problem is that they rather expensive to buy, so we decided to use what we have and source the stuff we don't have on the cheap and make it fit.
We already uploaded the making of the generator spacers, these are also in the playlist of this project which is here

Why we building it ...
Because we need more power and better heating, having only 3kW (13A/230V) single phase mains supply in the workshop is just not enough. It just gained some priority because it's getting colder, i also need to do some serious welding and if i push the Amps to far it just pops the fuse.
What we using ....
some time ago, It happened that a nice Diesel engine came along and about half a year later an affordable 22kVA 400V 3-phase alternator was found. The engine had no starter or alternator, and the generator head was not exactly a direct fit. After some more time we had most of the bits together and started to make something of it.
Final specifications and more details will follow along the series,
max rating should be around 20kVA at 50Hz/400V and about 25kVA at 60Hz/440V, three phase of course.
How we do it ....
Just follow along this series and you'll see.....
The general concept is rather obvious, most design details are worked out on the fly during build, no drawings existing right now.
Some other details might appear to be complicated or look strange at first sight, but everything is as it is for a good reason which i usually explain at some point.
In this episode we continue putting things together, laying out the under frame, some new parts arrived.
We also rewired the alternator to have a neutral, so it now provides 3x single phase 230V and 1x three phase 400V at the same time.
Assumed performance is:
20kVA standby at 400V/50Hz
24kVA standby at 440V/60Hz
to be confirmed by measurements once finished.
From now on the unit is used as much as possible to provide heating and power to the shop, even it is still work in progress.
It's also much nicer to work on it if things are not freezing cold.
