The 2027 Ram Power Wagon finally gets the 6.7-liter Cummins turbocharged diesel engine with an incredible 1,075 pound-feet of torque. But getting all that diesel power means giving up some important Power Wagon hardware.
The new Cummins-powered Power Wagon produces 430 horsepower and pairs its massive torque output with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 4-wheel drive. The combination allows the heavy-duty Ram to tow up to 19,630 pounds while carrying a payload of up to 2,930 pounds.
Ram still gives the 2027 Power Wagon serious off-road equipment, including Bilstein shocks, electronic locking front and rear differentials, an electronically disconnecting front sway bar, coil-sprung axles, skid plates, and nearly 34-inch tires.
However, packaging the large 6.7-liter Cummins diesel under the hood creates some compromises. The diesel Power Wagon loses the factory front winch and Articulink front suspension found on the gasoline version. Ground clearance also drops from 14.2 inches to 13.2 inches, while the diesel truck receives larger 20-inch wheels.
There is another major consideration: price. Adding the Cummins diesel costs $12,995 over the gasoline Power Wagon. That creates an interesting choice between maximum off-road capability and the incredible torque and towing capacity of the diesel.
