The 2026 Nissan X-Trail e-POWER is one of the cleverest hybrids on sale, because you never plug it in. A 1.5-litre petrol engine works purely as a generator, charging a small battery that feeds the electric motors, so the wheels are always driven by electricity while you refuel like any petrol car. This is the seven-seat e-4ORCE version, with electric all-wheel drive, 213 horsepower and 0 to 100 km/h in about 7.0 seconds, sipping around 6.4 litres per 100 km.
Inside, the Tekna+ gets twin twelve-inch screens, quilted leather and a panoramic roof, and the second row is genuinely spacious. The catch is the third row: it is really for children, and with all seven seats up the boot shrinks to just 120 litres. Fold it and you get a superb 485-litre five-seater.
