Vietnam Restaurant is one of six recipients of the 2024 America's Classics Award, presented by Heinz. A Restaurant and Chef Awards category, the America's Classics Award is given to locally owned restaurants that have timeless appeal and are beloved regionally for quality food that reflects the character of its community.
Founders Nhu Lai and Thuyen Luu fled Vietnam with their eight children and settled in Philadelphia, establishing a grocery store in 1979 that quickly transitioned into a restaurant in Chinatown in 1984. By 2000, they passed the business on to their son, Benny, and moved to a larger multi-floor space next door, securing Vietnam’s place as one of Philly's favorite date-night destinations for classic Vietnamese cuisine.
