In 1947, residents of Albany collected 300 tons of donated food, clothing, medical supplies, household items, and building materials to Nijmegen Netherlands. They were severely bombed during WWII. In gratitude, the Queen of the Netherlands sent a shipment of Tulips. That started the first Tulip Festival in 1948. This year there are over 100,000 bulbs planted.
