My mom found this broken vintage carved Russian Mama Bear Washing Cub Toy at a garage sale. The strings were broken. I fixed it, but I thought it would be nice to make a modern version of this old toy.
The nails go thru the arms and into the mama bear body. The arms should be loose so that they move easily. I glued the waxed string into the holes in the mama bear elbows. A string is also glued in the hole on the bottom of the paddle. If the holes aren't clean, you can use dremel drill bits to clean them out.
The arm strings are feed thru the holes in the paddle. The three strings are tied together in a triangle shape. Finally the combined strings are tied to the weight ball.
Swinging the ball in a circle makes the Mama Bear's arms go up and down.
