Have you ever heard the saying about sports writing – the smaller the ball, the better the story? What’s smaller than a golf ball? This week’s book is Michael Murphy’s homage to golf -- “Golf in the Kingdom. I remember the first time I read it I was blown away. This book influenced me greatly when I was writing “The Legend of Bagger Vance”. If you’re a golf fan and haven’t read it get it today. If you’re a sports fan I highly recommend it.

Michael Murphy came from a family of doctors and attended Stanford following the family tradition starting in pre-med. A course in comparative religion changed the trajectory of his life forever. In addition to being a writer Michael Murphy also founded the Esalen Institute in Big Sur in the 1950’2 which continues to be a serve as a retreat center and education institute along with The Center for Theory & Research. You can learn more about Esalen at Esalen.org

There’s a great article at golf.com/news/features/golf-in-the-kingdom-magical-power-michael-murphy Well worth the read.
