10. Mount Roraima
South America is a continent that has many 'lost worlds' and that is mainly contained via the mountains and mountain ranges that it has. One of the most unbelievable of them is the one called Mount Roraima. The mountain is located in between Brazil, Venezuela and Guyana, and is actually one of the oldest rock formations on Earth. Which is surprising given that the Earth has been around a while and has many mountains like this down a peg over the millennia.
One of unique features of the mountain is that it has a flat top, which is very rare when you consider what most mountains look like. There's also the sheer size and length of the mountain, it is 9 miles long. The way nature plays with the mountain has attracted many across the world. It has waterfalls because of the consistent rain, it's home to rare plants, and the journey to get to the top of the mountain isn't easy. But despite that, it's a popular destination for adventurers.
Add to all of that, because it's 9,000 feet tall, the mountain is touched by the clouds, making it truly feel like another world when you look at it from above. So if you do manage to get there, you're in for an experience like few others.
9. Atlantis
Ok, yes, I know that Atlantis is technically not real. But, if you think about how much Atlantis is ingrained in our culture, it might as well be. What's more, there are people who honestly believe Atlantis is there in the waters of the world and just hasn't been discovered yet.
Which is ironic, because one of the greatest philosophers of all time, Plato, actually wrote about Atlantis in Timaeus and Critias. According to Plato, Atlantis was an advanced civilization, but one that made the mistake of trying to take down Athens. Athens would respond with deadly force, and even the gods of the Greek Pantheon got involved and sank Atlantis to the body of the ocean, where it remains to this day.
So technically speaking, it's a legend, one that many feel Plato wrote about to be as a warning to certain civilizations. But even so, the legend has caused Atlantis to be a key part of the world's culture. Marvel, DC Comics, Disney, and more have incorporated Atlantis into their universes. But if it WAS real...wouldn't that be something?
8. Mountains Of Palawan
There are many sides to the islands of Palawan. It makes up the largest province in the Philippines, and it's known for its great and wondrous beauty. But, within these islands are a stretch of mountains, ones that are actually covered by forests so thickly that many don't know exactly what goes on in them.
This is not meant to be a ghost story of sorts, but rather, an indication of just how remote these mountains are. These aren't small, they average about 3500 feet in height above sea level. And to get that tall, as noted before, you'd have to go through the forests that surround them.
Due to this, many consider the province a "Castaway's dream come true", because you could live off the land and not have to worry too much about human interference. Which most definitely is a dream for many.
7. Lake Vostok and Antarctica
Antarctica is the only continent on Earth today that isn't full of people. Granted, there are continents that don't have a good "ratio" of people living on parts of its lands, but with Antarctica, it's WAY more in favor of nature than people than the others.
In fact, though we have had some scientific bases on Antarctica set up, we're nowhere close to having a true settlement there, and that's because of the intense cold, insane snow storms, and the fact that there is so much lack of life-sustaining food and other materials for humans to try and live there.
So while it's true that we "know" of Antarctica and have even "studied" it, it's still a mystery to this day.. And other parts of Antarctica that we know about, we can't reach. Like Lake Vostok. Which is a lake that is actually buried beneath miles of snow, where its surface is actually well below sea level.
Scientists are infinitely curious about this lake, but because of the very nature of Antarctica, we can't get to it. And what if this was but one simple mystery within this lost world? What could we find if we had a little more time and access?

If you're looking for terrain that is infinitely inhospitable, there are a few easy places you can go. And one of the best places to go for that kind of thing is the deserts of the world. Yet you might once again be curious about why these are part of a "lost world" here on Earth. Well it's very simple, most deserts on Earth didn't start out that way.
If you look back at the history of the Earth, you'll note that the deserts honestly came via time and various other factors emerging. Such as lakes drying up due to increased heat.
