Here are ten facts about John Quincy Adams - the first non-Founding Father president, second single term president and one of most accomplished and qualified men to ever serve in the office, despite the fact that his presidency was mostly a failure.

While part of the Democratic-Republican Party, Adams was the last Federalist in spirit. He had a more elegant vision for the America's future and didn't like being restrained by the while of the common man. However, he was also a signal of what was to common in the middle of the century as he was one of the strongest opponents of slavery and predicted the inevitability of the United States Civil War.
