This light is going to be awesome for video, but I'm more of a photographer as you know... so, is it any good for film photography?? Well, that's the big question isn't it.

Ok, let's talk about stick lights.
I like it. There, I said it. There's a bit of a stigma amongst photographers about using contrast lights... like you only use constant lights if you're not good enough for flash.
But here's the thing - as I explain in the video, flash is definitely superior for photography. I'm not questioning that. What I am saying is that, especially for low ISO processes, constant light sources can be useful.
If you can create enough power from your strobes, good for you. But if you can't, rather than firing the flash once, leaving the shutter open and waiting til the flash has recycled ready for a second burst... a constant light source can be used.
Light is cumulative over time. So whilst a constant light source like this CF100 will be way, way, way less powerful in any given measured instant than a flash or a studio strobe, over time the light it puts out will accumulate and eventually you'll achieve the same results as you would with a flash.
I say eventually, we're talking a second, maybe two seconds. Now that doesn't sound like much, but if you're asking a model to stay stock still for two seconds, suddenly that's a pretty big risk.
We can argue for days about flash vs constant light sources. But I'll leave it by saying that constant light sources just shouldn't be discounted. They are a consideration, and they work.
Ok, so moving on from that, how about this LED stick light? Well, it puts out a fair amount of power, which is great. Not flash-level power, but enough to get 1 second exposures on ISO 2 dry plates. So that's not to be sniffed at.
Now, shall we talk about the quality of my photographs??
