People love to hate on electric ADV motorcycles because of they're too heavy and don't have enough range. Zero set out to change that perception with the Zero DSR/X electric ADV bike. They loaned me one to do some testing on and the first thing I wanted to find out is if it's actually possible to do a "real" adv motorcycle ride on one of these things. So, I set out for my favorite local riding area to see if I could get there and back and still have range left over for some fun off road motorcycle riding while I was up there.
I took this Zero DSRX off road on gravel, did a hill climb and descent, explored some amazing viewpoints and even did some Zero ADV bike singletrack riding.
Electric motorcycles have their limitations, but they also have significant advantages over traditional internal combustion engines. Electric ADV bikes are quieter. You can ride them during fire season because they don't start fires....and maybe most importantly...they have a ton of power and are unbelievably fast. Limited range is still a problem for many kinds of ADV riding but as far as riding from home to the woods, riding around in the woods, and then riding home, this test proves that the Zero DSR X can absolutely do it.
