Adol returns to Felte, the Nox Crystal in hand. Majaba is there to congratulate him, but immediately warns Adol of the goings-on in Xandria. Dorman has apparently occupied the city with his soldiers, making getting to him a now difficult task. Majaba leaves Adol with the Tunnel Key and prays for his safety in the coming events.

En route to Xandria, Adol runs into Willy who confirms the situation in the city as well as Dorman's plan to use alchemy to revive the Phantom City. Together they go see Massea, who decides to accompany them to Xandria to learn more of the Phantom City first-hand and confront Dorman. On arriving to Xandria, the two find that Dorman has taken Niena ransom in exchange for the crystals, so with Dorman's intentions revealed apparent and the town occupied, Adol is forced to take an underground passage using the Tunnel Key.

Underneath Dorman's mansion Adol stumbles across the captive Ibur Gang, but they free themselves and promise to go after Dorman before Adol can even lift a finger to help (Dogi confirmed (_)? ). In Dorman's mansion proper, Adol eventually finds the merchant and Captain Rizze, with Niena being held unconscious nearby. Dorman finally reveals that he was indeed not intending to help the people of Xandria, but to revive the Phantom City. He leaves the task of bringing Adol to his offshore island to Rizze, who summons Karion and two other cloaked figures whom sap Adol of his strength, taking the crystals from him as well.

Meanwhile, the Iburs, knowing of where Dorman is headng, prepare a boat to raid his resurrection ceremony. They are stopped by Massea who begs to accompany them, and when they find out that her goals are the same as theirs and Adol's, they are happy to ablige.

Alright, here's where the narrative reaches what is probably its lowest point. Maybe I missed something or something was lost in translation, but Dorman's motivations are really strange. First of all, the reveal is extremely lackluster considering most NPC's from the moment you start the game are questionable of Dorman's intentions and obviously don't trust him, and everyone important echoes the sentiment. On top of that, this whole scenario in Xandria is just oddly done. Dorman takes Niena captive in order to get the crystals from Adol, but he locks the door to his mansion forcing you to take an underground passage. to...deliver the crystals. Then there's the fact that his "soldiers" attack you, further impeding your delivery. Mujaba gives the Tunnel Key to Adol because "he doesn't believe it will be easy" to get to Dorman...but why wouldn't it be? If Dorman believes that Adol is still blindly working for him then why wouldn't he just invite him in? And why does Mujaba have that key anyway? And what does Massea even mean by saying "I would like to learn more about it"? The context should "I would like to go and warn Dorman/kick Dorman's ass and recover the crystals so he can't resurrect the city to do evil guy things" which would lend some sense to the "direct approach" option that they lost upon Niena's capture, assuming that force was even intended.

Even if Dorman thinks that Adol figured out his plan and that his "so-called soldiers" are vagabonds that don't know any better and would kill Adol on sight, that still doesn't change the fact that he kidnapped Niena and planned to use her as a bargaining chip but simultaneously made Adol have to go out of his way to even bring the crystals to him. Even if he expected Adol to bring an army or a hulk or something, he has his own men/Rizze's men to back him up and safely secure the crystals. And why keep Adol alive and bring him to the secret island? I know villains usually love to do petty monologues and stuff, but the effort to knock Adol out and drag him to an island just to do so when he has NO FURTHER USE AT ALL and is probably the ONLY REMAINING MAJOR THREAT TO YOUR OPERATION (that you are aware of) seems very destructive to the verity of the situation. Even if it IS just to gloat about how Adol helped him do something "evil" and to have an audience, the sacrifice of logic for the sake of moving the game along seems pretty severe in this case. The Iburs and Massea manage to catch up to Dorman, so why not just leave Adol unconscious in the mansion for them to find at the very least? Why drag him along? I dunno, something about this part seemed off on my first time through and looking back at it now, but maybe I'm dense... or maybe it's just bad writing.
