This custom white fedora was worn by Michael Jackson in the 1988 Smooth Criminal music video from his acclaimed Bad album. Directed by Colin Chilvers and later featured in Moonwalker, the short film is remembered for Jackson’s legendary anti-gravity lean and for the instantly recognisable 1930s-inspired look of his white suit and fedora.
The fedora itself has its own story. Jackson initially wanted it decorated with a colourful feather, which can be spotted in behind-the-scenes footage and photos, but it was removed before filming as it distracted from the choreography.
