Your Testimony Is Not the Gospel
Acts 21:27–22:21 | Twelve 5 Church | August 16, 2026
Every Christian has a testimony of God’s grace—but our testimony is not the gospel.
In Acts 21–22, Paul stands before a hostile crowd and recounts how Christ confronted him, saved him, and called him. His testimony does not make Paul the hero. It exposes his guilt, exalts Christ, and demonstrates that even the most compelling personal story cannot create saving faith.
In this sermon, “Your Testimony Is Not the Gospel,” Pastor Nathan Hargrave considers three marks of a faithful Christian testimony:
1. Your testimony should confess your guilt2. Your testimony must commend Christ— He is alive— He is gracious and merciful— He is the Righteous One— He is Lord over all3. Your testimony cannot create faith
Our stories can point people to Christ, but they cannot replace the good news of Christ. The power is not in how dramatic our testimony may be. The power is in the gospel to which our testimony points.
Twelve 5 Church exists to glorify God through the faithful proclamation of His Word, the fellowship of His people, and the worship of Jesus Christ.
