You Were Supposed to Battle Professor Oak in Pokémon?!
Did you know Professor Oak has an entire Pokémon battle programmed into the original Pokémon games?
The battle was never normally accessible, but Oak's unused trainer data remains in the Generation I games and can be triggered through glitches or cheat devices.
And his team is ridiculously powerful: Tauros, Exeggutor, Arcanine, Gyarados and one of the fully evolved Kanto starters, with his Pokémon ranging from Level 66 all the way to Level 70. Bulbapedia
Considering how powerful his team is, it certainly looks like Oak may have been intended as a late-game or even post-game opponent—although exactly where Game Freak planned to use the battle remains unknown.
