So as it turns out the funny bug found by a player of the game turned out to be absolutely correct and the developers acknowledged their oopsie and patched the issue!

Framerates are improved by 10-20% in certain areas and more importantly stability is a lot better everywhere. Your framerate now feels "correct"!
