Huntsville State Park sits deep in the Sam Houston National Forest in Huntsville Texas, one of the most forested and underrated state parks in East Texas. If you're looking for a camping trip near Houston, this is one of the closest options you'll find with real nature. We hiked the trails, camped through a midnight thunderstorm, and I talked myself into swimming in a lake that very likely has alligators.
Not every outdoor adventure feels good at the start. Sometimes you just have to go anyway.
