Bastrop State Park sits in the heart of the Lost Pines, the westernmost stand of loblolly pine trees in the United States. Just 15 years ago, this landscape was nearly wiped out by the 2011 Bastrop County Complex Fire, one of the most destructive wildfires in Texas history.
Today, the forest you see here is part of a massive recovery effort. More than 2 million trees have been replanted, and conservation work continues to restore this fragile ecosystem.
