Two very nice trumpets are compared and/or contrasted here; Conn Selmer's Vintage One (1B 34), and Yamaha's stellar 8310Z. The V1 leans more legit, the Z towards jazz, but they are both quite popular and each are used in many venues across the U.S. and around the world. Simply put - they're two very fine instruments. I play each first with a Monette B6S1, a nice legit type mouthpiece. Then I do a little tonguing with each, again with the Monette B6S1. For a darker sound which might be beneficial in a very intimate atmoshpere I then use a Reeves C2J - it's a great trumpet mouthpiece that yields almost a flugel sound. Lastly, for a commercial or lead type sound I use a Monette BLM. Enjoy! :)
