Overwhelming guilt about the negative press from the media surrounds Kiryu. The shame of failing as a parental figure to Haruka leads him to surrender himself to authorities to face imprisonment.

By submitting to this of his own free will, Kiryu believes he can return to the children at the orphanage (Morning Glory) with a clear conscience with little to no collateral damage done to them.
