Should you write with no intention of ever publishing? I can understand starting a project and realising that it's not publishable partway through, or once you get to the end of your draft, but what if you know from the outset that you're probably never going to publish a project?

Is it still worth doing, if you're not a good enough writer to pull it off? Is it still worth doing if you know it's going to need a complete rewrite in five years (if you decide to revisit it at all)? Or would it be better to put the project aside and focus on something that is publishable?
