Metal (mini) Lathe
I always wanted to own some tools for metal work, besides a drill press. But the cost was always a prohibitive factor in those plans. This year, my birthday present to myself was one of these infamous mini lathes. This way, I got two for one: a restoration project and a new tool!
Well, what can one expect from a lathe set that includes a slew of tools for 800 Euro delivered? I was about to find out!
The quick and dirty of my findings is: if they were to offer these as a kit, go for it! The pre-built versions are not bad as such, but since you need to tune almost everything, depending on your goals, it would save a LOT of time if you didn't have to disassemble it first... maybe the manufacturer could shave off another bit as a kit? Just random thoughts...
Overall I am quite happy with what I got for my money - but that's me... a cartoon cat who's happy to tell his human assistant to "get it fixed up and ready" :) If you want a lathe that is ready to use from the box... these are not for you.
