Workers at Flying Food Group, an airline catering company serving Los Angeles International Airport, have filed a complaint with Cal/OSHA alleging unsafe and unsanitary working conditions inside the facility.
According to the complaint filed by UNITE HERE Local 11, workers reported seeing what they described as maggots, mold, cockroaches and other vermin, along with excessive heat and inadequate sanitation supplies. The complaint also alleges one employee became ill after handling dishes containing decomposing food and was instructed to wash them rather than discard them.
The union is calling for an expedited Cal/OSHA inspection. The City of Los Angeles has also launched an investigation into the company's safety and labor practices.
