In this video, I walk you through turning a simple bird on the wood lathe—an ideal project for beginners just getting started with woodturning! I used my Harvey T60S lathe and carbide woodturning tools from Easy Wood Tools to shape this cute, minimalist bird.
For the finishing touches, I used a combination of Yorkshire Grit and Citrus Burnishing Oil from Hampshire Sheen to give the bird a smooth, polished surface. I added character by staining the beak and tail with Black Intrinsic Colours from Hampshire Sheen, then sealed it with a coat of sanding sealer to lock in the colors and protect the finish.
If you’re new to woodturning, this is a fun and simple project to practice your skills. Join me for the full step-by-step process and turn your own wooden bird!
