This large Iroko bowl was a really fun woodturning project, with the timber offering plenty of character and a satisfying cut on the lathe. As always, the bowl was turned on my Record Power Coronet Herald wood lathe, using Easy Wood Tools carbide turning tools to achieve clean, controlled shaping throughout the process.
Once the form was complete, the surface was refined using Yorkshire Grit abrasive paste to remove any remaining tool marks and bring the grain to life. The piece was then finished with a coat of finishing wax, giving the bowl a smooth, tactile feel and a soft sheen that suits the rich tones of Iroko beautifully.
A rewarding turn that highlights the warmth and natural beauty of this hardwood, and a great reminder of why bowl turning is always such an enjoyable part of the craft.
