Hawthorne is still one of my favourite species of wood for turning.
This blank was part of a tree which I got from our new neighbors. At the time they were moving in they were cleaning up the garden and this tree had to go. All its branches were already cut off and just the one meter stump was still standing. So I cut it off for them and put it on my woodpile. I think I made a bowl for them from the other half of this section of the tree. There is a lot more of it left but it must have gotten somewhere near to the bottom of the pile. Fact is I can't find it at the moment.
I have been planning this project for quite some time but somehow I didn't get to it until recently. At least the wood has had the opportunity to dry for about one year. Maybe the result is not everyone's cup of tea but I like it a lot.
