PART I. I've never seen fires burn through a local woodland before, but perhaps it's no surprise after such a warm and dry spring. It's not clear as to whether these fires were caused by accident or deliberately (some fires in the region have been deliberate), but I decided it was an opportunity to learn a bit more about fire damaged woodland by documenting its recovery through photography. For the most part, the fire damage is fairly superficial and I feel hopeful that it will recover quite quickly. I wish it hadn't happened, but it makes an incredibly interesting, novel and graphic subject for photography.

I've not approached this new series as a photography tutorial but as an unfolding story. I'm sure I'll learn from the process so I'll share my thoughts and insights along the way.
