The spurtle was introduced in scotland in the 1570 something because in those days they didnt have the rolled oats we have today ,the oats were much courser and had a tendancy to lump together very quickly so they? had to stir the oats when cooking constantly hence the spurtle came to be also around that time came the spatula being flat instead of round this was for turning the Oatcakes.
Just as an interesting point here... the grain of the wood you will see in the end pictures... is smack dab in the middle! But that is the only place!!
I thought that seeing as we had the Spurtle and the Scotch Broom... . we might as well carry on and have a little Fiddle music as well. Tyler Carson is continuing to play all around the Pacific Northwest and actually lives in Oregon these days. In these pieces he teams up with Adam Dobres and they do an excellent job of playing off each other!

Bob at RJBWoodTurner reminded me that there are other things out there than wood to turn! His tips on working with deer antler were very enlightening..
For those few of you who read this... I am going to try and start getting a new video up every Saturday. I had been trying Fridays and sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't...So let's see if I can make this a regular thing!
