This was a piece of Spalted Maple that I was hoping to get a 12" bowl out of... unfortunately the crack that ran down the middle of the board... extended all the way through and I was left with two 6" wide pieces!
So as the saying goes... when life gives you lemons... make a second bowl! Pretty sure that is how that one goes!
There is a tool used here that I haven't used much... but it is a hollowing tool. I haven't been able to find out too much about it but its cutter is a ring of steel that is narrower on one side. Both sides are sharpened and as far as I can tell it does a pretty good job. Nice for getting in those tight spaces!
As far as shout outs go... I think that Fabian is a fabulous craftsman and all the pieces I have seen him do have been show stoppers!
