Many people come to us wanting to know how to get started wire wrapping cabochons. This is the project we recommend for those who may or may not have a little wire experience, but really want to make something that doesn't look like a typical beginner project.
With a little patience and by carefully following the instructions, almost anyone can make this beautiful pendant.
Materials needed:
• 40 inches 22 gauge square wire (21 gauge will work)
• 22 inches 20 gauge half-round wire
• 20X30 mm cabochon
• 3 round beads, 4 mm
Tools:
• flush cutters
• flat-nose pliers and/or tweezer-nose pliers
• chain-nose pliers
• round-nose pliers or 6-8 mm mandrel
• ruler
• painters tape
• a sharp point permanent marker
• steel wool (optional, but it is always better to start with clean wires)
• ring mandrel or other round objects to help with shaping (optional)

***A quick note: This tutorial assumes the cabochon is a 20X30 mm oval. It can be a couple of mm bigger or smaller, but any drastic changes in size or shape will make the wire sizing unworkable. By using a standard size cab we can simplify the pattern and avoid having to measure and compute the locations for the various wraps. These are things we will cover in future tutorials.)
