In the November Gemstone Orphanage subscription box, we included some lampwork glass Ladybugs that absolutely needed to be turned into earrings; so we did. And here is the tutorial.
We used the glass ladybugs, but you can use whatever beads you wish. 8mm seems to work the best, but 10's are doable. You also don't need to limit yourself to round beads. We've tried coins, various crystals, and even the stars you can see in the video
Take your time with the wire, follow the directions, and you will have a pretty awesome pair of earrings. The wire flower is also a great element to use in bracelets, pendants, broaches, or anywhere else you can imagine would look good with a wire flower or two.
All you will need to complete this project is some 20 gauge wire and a couple of beads. You can use gemstones, crystal, glass, metal, whatever you like and have on hand. The wire can be base metal or enameled craft wire in whatever color pleases you most.
The only tools you really need are a pair of chain nose pliers, a flush cutter, and some sort of 6mm mandrel. I'm using my bailing pliers, but have used round-nose pliers in the past. A ruler and marker help to keep everything measured and consistent
You will need a little time, some patience, the courage to make mistakes and keep working, and an open mind.
This is going to be fun.
