Well, this winter camping trip didn't go to plan! I went to Snowdonia to go winter wild camping. I checked the weather forecast everyday to make sure I had no unwanted surprises on my winter backpacking trip. However, during my winter camp, the weather changed for the worse and it turned into winter survival camping!
Fortunately, I was prepared. I had all my winter outdoor gear gear with me. A proper 4 season backpacking tent, lots of cold weather hiking gear and plenty of food too. I had some lightweight mountaineering equipment including crampons and ice axe.
My Nortent Varde 1 tent stood out as my best piece of backpacking gear. How it stayed up, I don't know, but it took some serious storm winds.
It should be noted I have been wild camping in extreme weather before. I also have lots of winter camping gear suitable for adverse weather conditions. I know the area well so if I needed to bail from my wild camp I could have got down the mountain safely.
