I woke up to a window of ice which would stay there the whole day and the trees outside were iced over too all day. My friend Penny called in the early afternoon and asked if I wanted to go take some photographs of this cool sight. We went and took country roads south of Mendota and down to Troy Grove five miles away. We also went by Snyder's Grove near Triumph.
The music was composed when I lived in Winslow, but I recently added a new section and re-recorded it in Feb 2023. It's a strange composition and I think it evokes a very introspective feeling shall i say. It's meant to be ambient music. It's in standard tuning and mostly played in the lower register of the guitar.
Overall it was a great day, perhaps once in a lifetime. Everything had to fall in place. The roads were clear, the sun was shining brilliantly, the temperate kept the ice on the trees all day. I thank Penny for calling me and her husband Bill for urging her to get out of the house and take advantage of the spectacle this winter day was giving here. She was having a bad day anyway and this took her and I both on a journey through the country roads in our county. We passed through Trove Grove (Homer) where famous "Wild Bill" Hickok was born. Only and handful of miles from our hometowns. It's my belief (and a logical one) that when WIld Bill Hickok left this area at 17, he got on an Illinois Central train at the Homer station stop just west of the actual town (where the CNW RR once crossed) in 1854 and either went north to Mendota five miles to catch a train west or went to LaSalle to take a riverboat west or work on the I&M canal s is rumored. I don't know a heck of alot about Wild Bill but I am sure you can find out more if ya research. ANyway, fun bits of history.
