Winter work in the prairie looks quiet, but it’s full of life.
Anna with a scythe. Basil with a rake.
Last year’s growth, gently returned to the earth.
We leave the stalks standing through winter so insects and small creatures have a place to live. After this work is done, we gather them into soft piles, giving life a chance to wake again in spring.
