These raging California wildfires were fuelled by one single incident

A man pushed a burning car into a gully in Northern California on Wednesday and the flames tripled in size after just one day.

By Thursday morning, the flames burned an average of almost 50 football fields per minute.

The man in question has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

The fire burned over 250 square miles near Chico, in Butte County.

An official from Cal Fire said that containment was only at 3% on early Friday morning local time.

Over 1,000 personnel are reportedly fighting the blaze.

3,500 residents have been ordered to evacuate, and buildings have been destroyed.
