We’re focusing in on southwestern France in the Gironde region where two large wildfires have been burning and tens of thousands are being forced to evacuate. The northern wildfire is the Gironde Wildfire and it has been tearing towards the popular Cap Ferret peninsula, leading to some escape roads became unusable. This has forced hundreds to flee by boat. The southern wildfire is the Biscarrosse Wildfire and it is being reported that it was started by a van that caught fire that quickly spread to the surrounding vegetation. The problem tonight is a significant change in wind direction with a small scale Biscay low apparently developing switching the winds to westerly which should dramatically change the fire direction and possibly send smoke over Bordeaux. Let’s check into it.
