A lava flow from one of the world’s most active volcanoes Piton de la Fournaise has reached the Indian Ocean. This eruption, which began on 13 February on the SE flank of Dolomieu Crater shot out a lava flow that then stalled at around 1725 m elevation on 16 Feb, but then on 3 March a new unstoppable molten rock flow poured rapidly, at times at 33 metres per hour, down the eastern flank, approached, closed, and then crossed and closed a major highway before pouring into the Indian Ocean last night.
