While running the TALI cinema in Berlin during the seventies, Wieland Speck had his first acting experiences in films by Marlene Dietrich, Ulrike Ottinger and Robert van Ackeren. In 1982 he became assistant of Manfred Salzgeber and started working for the Berlinale. Together with Salzgeber he founded the gay TEDDY AWARD in 1987. Since 1992 Wieland Speck is chief programmer of the Berlinale section PANORAMA. To us he explained why cinema is at home at the festivals.
