Hey there peeps! Thanks for joining us once again for our little acoustic cover of one of the most incredible, evocative, and melancholy songs ever written: Wichita Lineman.
Written by Jimmy Webb for Glenn Campbell, it conjures images and feelings of loneliness out on desolate American roads, mixed with a sort of working-class nobility that we find just irresistibly romantic.
Funny, then, that a little reading reveals it was actually written in response to the success of 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix' and that Glenn wanted another song with a placer name in the title.
I guess that shows how easily we can be influenced, and how the themes that the greatest songs deal with are in fact utterly universal - each and every one of us had felt like that lone guy out in the wilderness fighting the good fight.
Regardless, this remains one of the songs that just hypnotizes and transports us instantly. So it was a no-brainer to include this on our latest album of acoustic covers, 'Focus' (link at the top of this description), and we're really pleased with how it turned out.
We couldn't possibly perform this without its iconic bass line, so Soph has taken up the Kala U-Bass in order to keep the song feeling close to the original's arrangement. We really hope you like it :)
In other news - the drone is fixed! Just in time for a videography gig up in Newcastle yesterday, where we shot the wedding of the sweetest bride and groom in the world.
