Why does your table saw burn wood, and how do you stop it? In this video, I go through the most common causes of table saw burn marks and show how to troubleshoot them one step at a time.
We’ll look at dirty blades covered in pitch and resin, dull saw blades, using the wrong tooth count for ripping, blade height, feed rate, blade and fence alignment, and wood that moves or pinches the blade during a cut.
I also test several blades, including brand-new blades, to show why simply replacing your table saw blade isn’t always the answer. Sometimes the problem is too many teeth in the cut, feeding too slowly, poor alignment, or internal stress in the wood.
At the end of the day, table saw burning is really a heat and friction problem. When the blade starts rubbing more than it’s cutting, burn marks aren’t far behind.
