Ever feel like your brain is stuck in a massive traffic jam every time you try to speak? You’re busy translating word-for-word in your head, but by the time you find the right phrase, the conversation has moved on. If you can understand movies and books but freeze the moment a local asks you a question, this lesson is for you.
In this video, we explore the "Library vs. Construction Site" metaphor to explain why your brain crashes when you try to access your French. You’ll learn:
- The Science of Recognition vs. Production: Why understanding and speaking are "complete strangers" in your brain.
- The "Phantom Fluency" Trap: Why listening more won't magically make you speak.
- The Power of Ugly Fluency: Why speaking badly is the only way to eventually speak beautifully.
- 4 Actionable Solutions: How to divorce input from output and start "scripting your life."
Stop being a "master passenger" and finally get in the driver's seat of your French journey.

1. We focus only on the specifics of speaking/understanding/being understood in everyday French and have unique ways to help you learn it properly & faster.
2. We focus on shortcuts to help you make progress faster, which also means we tell you exactly what you can stop learning to prioritize what’s really important.
3. We use French culture as the subject to make it fun and interesting for adults.
Take care and stay safe.

When you first started learning French, perhaps decades ago, you probably quickly realized that there are big differences between the way that words are pronounced in French versus how they’re pronounced in English, even if they look or are spelt the same way.
One reason for this is that we tend to stress the syllables in French words differently than you would in English! In today’s lesson, I’ll explain how you can start to subtly change the way you emphasize the different syllables in French words, so you can sound more fluent when you speak French.
Take care and stay safe.
