In a rather unprecedented move, Paramount re-edited the entire Sonic the Hedgehog movie to make the character look like the original video game version. This actually made Sonic look far less realistic (well, compared to the previous talking blue hedgehog), but the fans liked it more. So let's talk about how the positive associations that we attach to video game characters are different from movies, how the uncanny valley actually works, and the role believability plays in generating our emotions.
