In 1968, Motown paired the two biggest vocal groups together for an amazing collaboration of recordings. Having a huge hit with "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me," and "I'll Try Something New," from their album "Joined Together," Diana Ross & The Supremes and The Temptations continued recordings for a follow-up album "Together" released in 1969. "The Weight" was the only single released from the album, but didn't crack the top 40. No other single was released. This song was released as a single in the UK only in March 1970 and had a decent charting at #31.

Track recorded: March 24, 1969
Strings recorded: May 1, 1969
Leads and horns recorded: May 2, 1969
Background vocals and additional overdubs recorded: May 7, 1969
It's a shame this wasn't released as a single in the US because it would have charted higher as it's a different, yet amazing song.
