Norman Whitfield proved to be the Velvelettes' best producer during their time with Motown. There seemed to be a right combination between the two and the results are Motown classics. This song was one of the songs that Norman produced for the group. The instrumental track was recorded nearly two years before the group put down their vocals. "Throw A Farewell Kiss" would be the B-side to "He Was Really Sayin' Somethin'." The Temptations would record a version in 1971 for their "Sky's The Limit" album.
